By now you know my first choice in any gift-giving situation is almost always going to be a book. Even for nonreaders (picture books for toddlers, say; coffee-table books for, you know, those who are capable but choose not to).

I’ve written quite a bit about this, and it occurs to me—what with Christmas almost upon us—you might need a little help. So here are all my gift-giving book lists to help you with last-minute ideas. All are books I own and have read too.

The Twelve+ Books of Christmas
This list categorizes suggestions: fiction for guys; fiction for gals; books for those who dream of travel or enjoy romance or memoir; art books, science books, history books, graphic novels … there’s a suggestion here for everyone on your list!

Giving the Gift of Imagination
There are some books that are just magic. Here are some I find particularly charming.

Vocabulary Words: Epistolary
A list of fantastic epistolary novels—that is, stories written in the form of a series of letters.

Some of My Favorite Nonfiction
Some of these appear on other lists, but it’s still worth a look.

The Circle of Life, and All That Jazz
If there are very young children on your list, this is the post for you.

Overlooked Irish Novels
I haven’t, actually, read the ones on this list, although I picked up a couple of them when I was in Ireland earlier this year. But take a look here if someone on your list dreams of Eire. I have read these, however: Ireland on the Page.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
This list of children’s Christmas books ran earlier this month, but my compendium wouldn’t be complete without it.

Is that enough? If you’re still stumped, you can click on reviews in the tag cloud to the left, which will bring up individual book reviews; recommended books will provide a similar list. And here’s one more place to look: at the beginning of the year, I publish a cross-reference of every book mentioned on this blog in the previous year, with a link to the post(s) in which it’s mentioned. You’ll see the 2012 edition in a few weeks. Here are 2011 and 2010.

Merry Christmas, y’all.
